What are Oil Water Separators?

Oil water separators are devices that remove oils and solids from water. They let oil float to the top and heavy particles sink to the bottom. This is key for stopping stormwater pollution in industrial areas.

Importance in Stormwater Management

These separators are crucial for managing stormwater. They stop contaminated runoff from getting into natural water. By catching oils and sediments, they protect aquatic life and follow environmental laws.

Maryland Regulations for Oil Water Separators

Maryland has strict rules for oil water separators. These rules match federal guidelines for managing stormwater. Companies must install and keep these systems in good shape to follow state laws. They need regular checks and cleanings to work well and protect the environment.

The Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program in Maryland

Maryland’s Underground Injection Control Program is key to keeping the state’s drinking water safe. It started in 1984 and makes sure subsurface disposal systems don’t pollute groundwater.

Purpose and Importance of UIC

The UIC program works to keep underground water clean. It controls the release of fluids into the ground to protect drinking water. This is important because over 30% of Maryland’s people get their drinking water from underground.

Subsurface Disposal Systems in Maryland

In Maryland, all subsurface disposal systems are Class V. This includes septic systems, dry wells, seepage pits, and drainage holes. The UIC program checks these systems to stop them from polluting the groundwater.

Protecting Underground Sources of Drinking Water

Keeping groundwater safe is a main goal of the UIC program. It focuses on stopping contaminants not usually found in home wastewater. By managing these systems, the program keeps Maryland’s underground drinking water clean.

Maintenance and Cleaning of Oil Water Separators

Keeping oil water separators in top shape is crucial for businesses. It helps them follow environmental laws. Regular upkeep makes sure these systems work well and prevents costly problems later.

Importance of Regular Maintenance

Oil water separators need regular checks to function properly. Without proper care, they can get clogged with oil and other debris. This buildup makes the separator less effective at cleaning wastewater. Regular maintenance keeps the system running smoothly and helps businesses meet environmental standards.

Professional Cleaning Services in Maryland

Many Maryland businesses use expert oil/water separator cleaning services. These professionals have the right tools and knowledge to clean separators thoroughly. They can spot and fix problems early, preventing big headaches. Professional cleaners ensure the job meets all state rules for wastewater treatment.

Environmental Impact of Proper Maintenance

Good maintenance of oil water separators does more than just follow rules. It protects our water and soil from harmful pollutants. Clean separators work better at removing oil and other pollutants from water. This means cleaner water goes back into our rivers and streams. Proper maintenance is a win for businesses and the environment.

These separators are crucial in storm water systems. They process runoff to meet the US EPA’s Clean Water Act standards. With effective oily water treatment, facilities protect the environment and dodge big fines.

Conclusion

Maryland Below Ground Oil Water Separators are crucial for our environment’s safety. They ensure businesses follow strict rules and keep our water clean. Companies like Freytech Inc. and AEG Environmental offer excellent solutions for managing stormwater.

It’s important to take good care of these separators. Regular maintenance and expert cleaning keep them in top shape. This not only meets legal requirements but also protects our water sources. The Underground Injection Control Program adds extra protection for Maryland’s drinking water.

These separators do more than just follow the law. They are essential for maintaining healthy waters in Maryland. By using these solutions, businesses can grow and be eco-friendly. It benefits everyone – companies, communities, and the environment.

ECOSORP

FOR EMULSIFIED AND DISSOLVED OIL: (ECOSORP BELOW 1 PPM)

The EcoSorp oil water separator is for use to obtain below 1 part per million (PPM) separation efficiencies. It is for use with free or PHYSICALLY EMULSIFIED AND DISSOLVED OIL by adsorption from water. This represents exceptionally clean separation. The EcoSorp requires filter / coalescing media cartridge replacement since it works through adsorption and the media becomes saturated over time (typically once a year). Recommended for use downstream of a Freytech Inc. above or below ground 5 PPM oil water separator to prolong its useful life. The media can absorb up to 22 lbs (10 kg) of oil. Units available with flow rates up to 100 gallons per minute (GPM) / 380 liters per minute (L/M). No electrical power requirements.

Typical Fields of Application

  • For emulsified and dissolved oil.

HIGH FLOW RATE OIL WATER SEPARATOR

Each XL Separator Panel can effectively treat oily water flow rates ranging from 320 GPM (20 l/s) to 640 GPM (40 l/s). Achieves 5 Part per Million (PPM) separation of free non-emulsified oil. By far, the most affordable method for large industrial oil-water separation since panels can be installed side by side like windowpanes in a submerged cross-wall in locally procured concrete or steel tanks. This unique solution represents a huge advantage over shipping conventional bulky separators since there is no limit to the flow rate that can be treated and the panels are washable and reusable. Maintenance is conducted from above ground making it safer, cleaner, quicker and of course, more affordable. Each panel requires 1 yard / 1 meter of submerged wall space. Optional polishing system available to also separate trace emulsified oil down to 0.1 PPM.

With the optional ADD Skimmer, the oil being separated by the XL Panels is mechanically and automatically collected 24/7 and drained by gravity to a separate receptacle. The skimmed oil will contain only 0.3% of water thus providing the operator with an outstanding 99.7 % concentration of pure used oil. This represents a significant advantage over other skimmers in that the operator no longer has to pay for the separated oil and the excess water to be removed from the separator by septic truck and shipped/ treated in a wastewater treatment plant. The operator can even sell or donate the pure separated oil since it is now possible to skim it free of water from the separator on site.
