Understanding Oil Water Separator Tanks

Oil water separator tanks are key in many industries, like stormwater management and water recycling. They keep the environment safe and protect important equipment.

What are oil water separators?

Oil water separators are machines placed after oil tanks and industrial gear. They split oil from water, helping to keep water clean and supporting recycling.

How do they work?

These separators use centrifugal force to split water from oil. When the mix goes into the tank, it moves in a spiral shape. Heavy water bits go to the outside, while light oil stays in the middle. This method can take out up to 60% of the water.

Importance in industrial settings

In factories, oil water separators are crucial for many reasons. They stop corrosion, protect air tools, and keep compressed air systems well-lubricated. These devices also help the environment by keeping oil out of groundwater. For companies managing stormwater, they make sure runoff is cleaned before it’s released.

Benefits of Oil Water Separator Tanks in Michigan Industries

Oil water separator tanks are key in Michigan’s industrial world. They bring big benefits to many businesses. These include companies in the petrochemical and wastewater treatment sectors.

Meeting EPA discharge rules is a big plus. Michigan’s industries must follow strict guidelines. Oil water separators help by taking oil out of wastewater before it’s released. This keeps the environment safe and saves companies from fines and legal trouble.

In the petrochemical industry, these tanks are a must. They keep products clean by removing oil from water used in making products. This means better product quality and less waste, making things more efficient.

For places that treat wastewater, these tanks are crucial. They take out oil and grease from the water. This protects the treatment process and keeps water resources safe.

They’re also great for spill control. If there’s an oil spill, these tanks can catch and hold the oil. This stops environmental harm and makes cleanup easier, especially for industries that work with a lot of oil or chemicals.

By using oil water separator tanks, Michigan industries can protect their gear, work better, and show they care about the environment. These tanks are a big help for many industries in the state.

Types of Oil Water Separator Tanks Available in Michigan

In Michigan, industries use Oil Water Separator Tanks for treating industrial wastewater. These tanks vary in shape and size to meet different needs and fit various spaces.

Cylindrical Separators

Cylindrical Oil Water Separator Tanks are great for many industries. They can sit above or below ground, perfect for places with little space. These tanks are top at removing oil from water in systems that keep flowing.

Rectangular Separators

Rectangular separators are often picked for being above ground. They have a big surface area for oil separation, making them good for big wastewater flows. Some can even be put underground, giving flexibility for different spaces.

Installation Options

Choosing between above-ground and underground tanks depends on several things. Above-ground tanks are simpler to keep up and check. Underground tanks use less surface space but need a harder setup. Both types are key in treating wastewater in Michigan.

Many makers of Oil Water Separator Tanks in Michigan offer standard sizes with single-wall or double-wall builds. For industries needing something special, custom tanks can be made. This ensures they work best in certain wastewater treatment situations.

Oil Water Separator Tanks Michigan: Compliance and Regulations

In Michigan, industries using oil water separator tanks must follow strict rules. These rules help protect our water and manage stormwater well. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets limits on what businesses can release into the water to prevent harm.

Companies in Michigan often use advanced separator systems to meet these rules. These tanks are made to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standards, ensuring they are top quality. They use new technologies like coalescing systems and secondary screens to improve separation.

The aim of these advanced separators is to keep the water very clean, with less than 10 parts per million (PPM) of oil. This clean water helps businesses follow the law and shows they care for the environment. Some separators even have UL SU2215 labels, showing they’re safe and work well.

Michigan businesses should pick separators with approved coatings and high oil alarm systems. These add extra safety against leaks and overflows, helping with stormwater management. By choosing the right equipment, companies can avoid fines, keep our water safe, and stay on good terms with regulators.

ECOSORP

FOR EMULSIFIED AND DISSOLVED OIL: (ECOSORP BELOW 1 PPM)

The EcoSorp oil water separator is for use to obtain below 1 part per million (PPM) separation efficiencies. It is for use with free or PHYSICALLY EMULSIFIED AND DISSOLVED OIL by adsorption from water. This represents exceptionally clean separation. The EcoSorp requires filter / coalescing media cartridge replacement since it works through adsorption and the media becomes saturated over time (typically once a year). Recommended for use downstream of a Freytech Inc. above or below ground 5 PPM oil water separator to prolong its useful life. The media can absorb up to 22 lbs (10 kg) of oil. Units available with flow rates up to 100 gallons per minute (GPM) / 380 liters per minute (L/M). No electrical power requirements.

Typical Fields of Application

  • For emulsified and dissolved oil.

HIGH FLOW RATE OIL WATER SEPARATOR

Each XL Separator Panel can effectively treat oily water flow rates ranging from 320 GPM (20 l/s) to 640 GPM (40 l/s). Achieves 5 Part per Million (PPM) separation of free non-emulsified oil. By far, the most affordable method for large industrial oil-water separation since panels can be installed side by side like windowpanes in a submerged cross-wall in locally procured concrete or steel tanks. This unique solution represents a huge advantage over shipping conventional bulky separators since there is no limit to the flow rate that can be treated and the panels are washable and reusable. Maintenance is conducted from above ground making it safer, cleaner, quicker and of course, more affordable. Each panel requires 1 yard / 1 meter of submerged wall space. Optional polishing system available to also separate trace emulsified oil down to 0.1 PPM.

With the optional ADD Skimmer, the oil being separated by the XL Panels is mechanically and automatically collected 24/7 and drained by gravity to a separate receptacle. The skimmed oil will contain only 0.3% of water thus providing the operator with an outstanding 99.7 % concentration of pure used oil. This represents a significant advantage over other skimmers in that the operator no longer has to pay for the separated oil and the excess water to be removed from the separator by septic truck and shipped/ treated in a wastewater treatment plant. The operator can even sell or donate the pure separated oil since it is now possible to skim it free of water from the separator on site.
